Toe Up Socks with Tamara

$120.00

Instructor: Tamara Oechslin

Dates: Saturday, August 22nd, 29th, and September 12th from 1:00-2:30 PM

Prerequisites: Previous sock knitting is not required, but students should be familiar with knitting and purling in the same row and understand knitting in the round.

Learn to knit your socks from the toes up! We’ll start with Judy’s magic cast-on and work left/right increases until a proper fit. After the foot, learn a traditional gusset and heel flap to turn up the leg and work your desired length before a loose bind off. This method can work for magic loop, 2 circulars, or DPNs (double pointed needles) and use up every inch of a sock yarn in pretty, fun colors!

Those with previous sock knitting experience are welcome to learn two-at-a-time (no second sock syndrome!) on circular needles with the understanding that they will need to commit to knitting two full socks in a few, short weeks.

Newer knitters and those doing two socks are encouraged to choose either the DK or worsted option.

Materials:

You have 3 yarn and needle size options for this class. Your needles can be DPNs or circulars.

If using the Magic Loop method, you will need (1) 40-47” circular needle.

If doing two at a time, 2 24-32”; I prefer 2 32” circular needles for 2-at-a-time) and any superwash, wool-based yarn

  • US 1.5 needles and ~440 yards sock yarn, or

  • US 3 needles and ~350 yards DK yarn, or

  • US 5 needles and ~300 yards worsted yarn

Tapestry needle, measuring tape
