Shadow Knitting with Tamara

$50.00

Instructor: Tamara Oechslin

Date: Saturday, September 12th from 1:00-3:00

Prerequisites: Be comfortable knitting, purling, casting on and off.

Add a fun, hidden design element to your project! Shadow knitting (aka illusion knitting) uses alternating garter and stockinette rows to reveal a hidden image when viewed from the side. In motion, the effect is like magic! You can view this effect in popular designs such as the dot.top by p1.zip and the fascinating Double Vision Squared by Woolly Knits.

We’ll learn this fascinating technique through test swatches, but if you are working on a shadow knitting project, please feel free to bring your in-progress items.

Materials:

Instructions provided.

~100 yards each of DK/worsted yarn in two contrasting, solid colors (a lighter and a darker color in a smooth wool is preferred)

Appropriate needles for yarn (US size 6-8 is typical for DK/Worsted)
