Crochet an Amigurumi Giraffe

$120.00

Instructor: Helen Tankersley

Date: Wed, July 15th, 22nd, and 29th from 12:30-2 PM

Level: Confident Beginner

Students must have completed Crochet 101 or be comfortable with the following stitches: slip knot, chain (ch), single crochet (sc), and slip stitch (sl st).

Amigurumi (ah-mee-goo-ROO-mee) is the Japanese art of creating stuffed cute yarn creatures or objects using crochet or knitting. They are a perfect, joyful gift for loved ones and littles. This project is great for someone who has taken a Crochet 101 class, is able to chain and single crochet, and would like to learn to produce fun three-dimensional projects.

In this class, you will learn how to crochet in the round using Magic Ring, increase and decrease your stitches, and incorporate sewing into your crochet projects. You can make your project striped with several colors, or keep it simple at one or two! We will make an amigurumi giraffe over the course of the class, but you can use these skills to crochet hats, baskets, and other projects made in the round!

Materials
You will need approx. 330 yards in whatever yarn weight you choose for your project. While the pattern states sport weight, you could also size up your yarn for a bigger giraffe. Here are the yarns we recommend:

Sport weight: Cascade Yarns 220 SWM Sport or Blue Sky Fibers Organic Cotton Sport + 3mm hook

Worsted weight: Cascade Yarns 220 SWM or Blue Sky Fibers Organic Cotton Worsted+ 4.5-5mm hook or smaller (bring a few near hook sizes in case it suits your yarn better)

- Darning needle
- Stuffing such as polyfill (yarn scraps are also an option)
- Scissors
- Safety eyes or embroidery thread for the eyes
- A copy of your project pattern, which is available for free. As this pattern is presented on a blogwith ads, we will have condensed and printed copies available for students.

**Please bring your own stuffing and safety eyes to class!
