Class Dates: Friday, May 29th and June 5th from 10:30 AM to 2 PM
Instructor: Lynne Hutton
Join Lynne to learn lace knitting in a quick and approachable project, lace bags! In this two part class, Lynne will guide you through how to understand gauge, read a lacework chart, and knit in a lace pattern to create an adorable bag.
This bag comes in several different sizes and is worked flat, then seamed together to create the sides. You have the option of cinching your bag closed using the method of your choice to create both a closure and a handle (i-cord, ribbon, crochet chain, cording, etc).
In class one, you will:
-Discuss gauge, how it works, and how to read your project gauge
-Learn how to read a lace chart
-Practice the lace pattern provided in the pattern using charts and troubleshoot with Lynne as you practice
-Cast on for your bag
In class two, you will:
-Continue work on your bag + troubleshoot any issues
-Discuss how to seam your bag (or seam your bag with Lynne if you’re to that point)
-Discuss closure methods for your bag
Materials
DK or Worsted weight yarn (a lighter, non-variegated yarn will be easiest to learn lacework with, but choose a color and texture you love)
Needles (circular or straight) in a size appropriate for your yarn weight. Lynne recommends wooden needles for their grippy nature, but you can use metal too if that is what you prefer!
The free pattern, A Trio of Lace Bags: A Lesson in Gauge by Sofia Leo *please download the pattern and have accessible to yourself during class. We recommend printing your lace chart or having it accessible on a tablet.
