Learn to Make a Felted Bag!
Dates: February 3rd and 17th from 10:30 AM- noon
Instructor: Susan Barstein
Prerequisites: Must know how to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off. No previous felting experience required.
Join Susan in making the adorable Metropolitan Bag by Nora J. Bellows in this fun two class series!
During class one, you will cast on with size 11 needles and knit up the bottom of your bag (essentially a big swatch!). Then, you’ll pick up stitches and begin knitting in the round to create your bag as Susan leads you through the next steps.
There is a gap between classes to allow you to knit your bag.
Class two will happen at Susan’s home (details to be given during the first class) where students will felt their bags with Susan in a machine felting extravaganza! After the bags are felted, you will apply your strap hardware for a finishing touch.
You have the option of making the small (“to-go”) or medium sized bag during class time. The small is an adorable handbag, and the medium would be perfect as a tote or project bag!
Scroll down for details on each bag size and the amount of yarn that will be needed for each.
Before Class:
Purchase your pattern online or in-person through Knit
Come to the shop prior to class to purchase your class kit, which contains non-superwash worsted weight yarn and genuine leather bag straps and hardware. Make sure at least one skein of your yarn is wound prior to class.
