Bamboo Knitalong

Join Jamie Skripnik and the Knit B’ham gang every Wednesday morning in May from 11-12:30 PM to knit the textured and surprisingly easy Bamboo pattern designed by Yumiko Alexander.

Like all of our KALs, it is free to join in on the fun- we just ask you get your yarn for this project with us to help support the shop, and buy the pattern from the designer on Ravelry!

FAQs

  • Our KAL (knitalong) is free to participate in. The KAL isn’t a formal class, and you don’t have to attend every session. Drop in and out as you like.

During the sessions, Jamie will be on hand to demonstrate techniques and answer questions on your KAL. Come to each day with your materials and be surrounded by others making the same pattern!

To join in, sign up using the form below and come to the shop prior to the start date to pick out your yarn and any notions you don’t already have. Amy and Isabel will be in the shop to help you pick your correct size and yarn.

  • You need to know only knit, purl and slip stiches to make this top. No shaping is worked as the stitch pattern automatically shapes the neckline. Interesting vertical stripes using two colors, combining Stockinette Stitch and Reverse Stockinette Stitch, and alternating those stitches add interest for the color play and texture.

This pattern gives you a choice of chest circumference and finished length.

The photos show one top in the regular fit with a longer length and another top in an oversized fit with a shorter length. As you can see, different combinations of circumference and length give totally different looks.

  • We suggest this pattern for advanced beginners and above. .If you feel confident casting on, off, and knitting/purling, this will be a chance to grow your skillset.

    During this pattern, you will:

-Knit a garment from the top down

    -Knit, purl, and slip stitches

    -Use reverse stockinette stitch

The best way to learn a new skill is just to dive in. If these are new techniques for you, the group and Jamie will be there to guide you through it! Be prepared for a fun but challenging knit.

  • This pattern has three chest sizes to choose from, two sleeve options, and two lengths.

    Chest: 46 (50, 54)“ / 115 (125, 135)cm

    Length (laid flat): Choice of 18”, 20 ½”, 23” or 25 ½“ / 45cm, 51cm, 57.5cm or 64cm

Yumiko recommends choosing the chest size based on your ease preference and length.

    As shown in the photos

Black top: 50” chest, 18” length
    Cream top: 46”chest, 25 ½“ length

  • To choose your size, measure the circumference of your torso around the fullest part of your chest. Yumiko does not give a suggested amount of ease for this pattern, and suggests that you choose based on your preference.

To figure this out, you can always measure a top that you love laid flat from pit to pit. Double that measurement, then subtract your chest measurement. The difference between the two numbers will tell you how much ease you like.

Does picking a size stress you out? We are always happy to take your measurements and help pick out the right size for you!
