Join Jamie Skripnik and the Knit B’ham gang every Wednesday morning in March from 11-12:30 PM to knit the breezy and lightweight Floodlight Tee designed by Tanis Lavallee

Like all of our KALs, it is free to join- we just ask you get your yarn for this project with us to help support the shop, and buy the pattern from the designer on Ravelry!

FAQs

  • Our KAL (knitalong) is free to participate in. The KAL isn’t a formal class, and you don’t have to attend every session. Drop in and out as you like.

    During the sessions, Jamie will be on hand to demonstrate techniques and answer questions on your KAL. Come to each day with your materials and be surrounded by others making the same pattern!

    To join in, sign up using the form below and come to the shop prior to the start date to pick out your yarn and any notions you don’t already have. Amy and Isabel will be in the shop to help you pick your correct size and yarn.

  • The Floodlight Tee is a size inclusive top down garment made in a fingering weight yarn. It has a short cap sleeve and a super cute keyhole detail at the back neck.

    You can choose to make this tee in one color, or stripe as many as you’d like!

    The designer, Tanis, has a sample that is striped rainbow, and Jamie’s sample at the shop is entirely cool toned stripes. Tanis also has a version that uses mohair at the yoke to do a fun and subtle mohair stripe effect!

  • We suggest this pattern for confident beginners and above. We have seen several folks make this as their first garment, so if you feel confident casting on, off, and knitting/purling, this will be a chance to grow your skillset.

    During this pattern, you will:

    -Increase and decrease

    -Work flat and in the round

    -Create an i-cord tie

    -Stripe several colors (optional)

    -Knit a garment from the top down

    The best way to learn a new skill is just to dive in. If these are new techniques for you, the group and Jamie will be there to guide you through it! Be prepared for a fun but challenging knit.

  • This pattern is inclusively sized and written to have a finished bust measurement of between 32-68”.

    To choose your size, measure the circumference of your torso around the fullest part of your chest. Tanis suggests choosing a size that fits with approx. 6”/15cm of positive ease. However, you can bend or break this suggestion to suit your tastes.

  • YARN REQUIREMENTS:

    MC (Fingering): 410 (450, 490, 540, 580, 640) (715, 750, 810, 875, 960) yds.


    CC (Mohair): 60 (65, 65, 70, 80, 85) (90, 100, 110, 125, 135) yds.

    OR 470 (515, 555, 610, 660, 725) (805, 850, 920, 1000, 1095) yds total fingering weight yarn.

  • This is a fingering weight tank top originally written for a fingering weight silk and linen blend striped with a mohair. You can choose to make this in a summer yarn, but Tanis says this would also be beautiful in any wooly fingering weight.

    Our suggestions:

  • The suggested gauge is:

    24 sts and 32 rows = 4” square in stockinette stitch knit in the round and flat.

    Same gauge for both yarns if you choose to also use a mohair.

  • You will need:

    • 1 stitch marker

    • barber cords or waste yarn

    • tapestry needle
